Here are some tips for applying lymphatic massage oil:
- Start at the farthest point. Begin massaging at the part of the body that's furthest from your core. For example, if you have lymphedema in your hand, arm, and shoulder, start at the tips of your fingers.
- Use light pressure. Apply gentle, sweeping motions with just enough pressure to shift the skin's surface.
- Stroke towards the heart. For areas from your feet to your neck, stroke in a direction that moves fluid back towards your heart. For your head, face, and neck, stroke down towards your heart.
- Massage tissues that aren't swollen. Use a "C" motion with your fingers to gently massage tissues that aren't swollen.
- Spend more time in areas with fluid. If there's a particular area where you're holding a lot of fluid, you can spend more time massaging it.
